Something that connects countries around the world is art and that's just what things like Art Insider are doing connecting artist everywhere. In a previous blog I briefly discussed just what this special online news source is doing. Now, Insider.com is the owner of all the spinoffs like Beauty Insider, Art Insider, etc.. they report and show artwork on their website. On top of running their website they have subscriptions available on Snapchat for you to follow. So today I want to discuss the many different art trends sweeping the globe right now.
First i'm going to start off in Australia, where group of balloon artist called Pimp My Balloons are designing huge balloon costumes. The artists have been creating them for five years now and are still thriving. The costumes or huge sculptures can last up to four weeks and are completely biodegradable. The balloons are also turned into compost so none of the sculptures go to waste. Also involved in the crazy world of ballon art is Carolyn Hayman who builds custom ballon costumes as well. She actually started her ballon crafting right her in Arkansas just over five years ago. She created a large pink and purple elephant called Taffy which takes two people to wear. Taffy took a full day to create the first time and took up two full rooms. She has many other popular creations like Conrad the Unicorn who apparently has achieved celebrity status in the ballon world.
A London artist named Liam Brandon Murray has joined in the race of wearable art by creating couture sculptures. He started making the beautiful garments about ten years ago and is continuing to make new sculptures. He has had multiple fashion shows to show off his work and works side by side with Cosplay companies. When asked about his art he said he makes them simply to get a reaction out of people when his models go out and where them in public. When asked about the process he said it was very lengthy and starts off with basic sculpting, then moves on to mold making. Combining as much as seven substances together to get the sculptures out of the molds without damaging them. He does these steps to make them "light, durable, flexible, comfortable, etc" for his models to wear as some of his designs are quite immense. His most popular costumes like the large black sculpture dress would take him about two to two and a half years. When he was asked what inspires his work he said artist like Leonardo DeVinci and other Renaissance artists.
Now these few artists and styles are both heavily circulating internationally as both have been shown at multiple conventions. Murray's designs travel around the world to multiple events to showcase his extraordinary dedication to the craft of wearable sculpture. Along with sillier things like Conrad the Unicorn and Taffy the elephant these designs are traveling around the world and have quite the fan following and lost of customers who actually pay lots of money to wear these intricate designs. If you have any free time I strongly recommend looking into more artist like these on Art Insider whether online or by your smart phone.
