Earlier in the year I did a television critique over the Masked Singer and here I am again coming to the world of television. This isn't necessarily a critique more of a way to showcase something that is one of my favorite series ever. The show didn't just come about overnight the whole series is based off the bestselling novels of Cassandra Clare.
The Mortal Instruments books series has been around since the first book was released in 2007. Cassandra Clare has many other book series but this is her most famous one. When the books came out I was huge book nerd. I read every single book of the six book series and have even considered rereading them for maybe the fourth time. (I've kind of lost track) The series takes place in modern day New York City and follows the unusual life of Clary Fray who lives with her mother and as far as she knew her father had passed away in war. However, Clary's mom is keeping a huge secret from her but on her 18th birthday Clary is thrown right in the middle of this secret world. She meets Jace Lightwood at a club where he is surprised she can see him as shadowhunters (Demon Hunters) are invisible to humans so she follows him through the club and sees him murder a woman in the VIP. He then explains to her that all the stories are true vampire, werwolves, warlocks, and demons all exist. The books follow her journey of finding out her family history and being thrown into the world of shadowhunters.
The Freeform network decided to turn the best selling novels into a hit television series when the first episode aired in January of 2016. The show is currently airing its third and final series on the Freeform network. The show however was not the first attempt to bring the novels to the screen as in 2013 a movie of the first book was released but did not make enough in the box offices to create the next movie. So three years after the movie was released Freeform decided to pick up the project and has had more success than the movie alone.
All of the seasons of the show of course stream on Freeform but are also available on Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Youtube, iTunes, and Google Play. The show has had overall good reviews with a 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, a 6.7 out of 10 on IMDb, and a 97% of google users have said they like the show. The show has received nine different awards for performances and the overall audience enjoyment of the show.
