Cody Johnson now age 31 from Huntsville, Texas who started playing guitar at age 12, has continued to promote his music career as the years go by. I have been listening to him for a few years now his new album "Ain't Nothin' To It" was released on January 18, 2019. However, a few songs were released earlier as singles and are now included in the album. This is Johnson's seventh album he's released and with each album he brings more and more to the table. His first six albums were self released this one was his first album released with a record label. He released this most recent album with Warner Music Nashville for his major-label debut. The album is currently #1 in downloads and has four songs in the top 50 this week.
The first song on the album is "Ain't Nothin' to It" and is currently number 19 on the country charts. The song follows a conversation between a father and son who is planning to propose soon and wants to know how he's been in love for so long and sure enough the father responds "There ain't nothin to it" The song consists of guitar, fiddle, and drums like most of the songs featured throughout the album. Along with another slow romantic track like "On my way to you" that has been topping the charts since its single release in mid 2018. The romance factor is in full swing in this album where he describes every curve, bridge, or ditch all the things getting in the way of him finally making his way to the girl he loves.
To break up the album Johnson features a few upbeat tracks like "Honky Tonk Mood" and "Doubt Me Now". His song "Doubt Me Now" has sparked interest as a track that face his haters and negative reviews he states "Lovin all you haters. Beggin you to doubt me now" when listening to the track you definitely get the bad cowboy vibes mixed with some good ole rock and roll. One song that hit me hard from the album was "Husband and Wives" where Johnson discusses divorce in a slow acoustic song as a bonus track. As a child who dealt with divorce at a young age the song hits home a little harder than other tracks the main line in the song states "Oh, it's my belief pride is the chief cause in the number of husbands and wives" it's easy to say the Johnson's new album is relatable.
The album has received multiple positive reviews based on the well blended mix of country and even though being very new on the charts it's already been called 'His best album yet' by many sources. I would highly recommend any country fan to check the album out and even if you're not that into country Johnson's latest album has a little bit of everything for everyone. He has not yet released any music videos for the album but multiple are expected to be released soon.
